Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct::
            FTC File No #20203138

On September 1, 2022, Credit Karma, LLC settled allegations brought against the company by The Federal Trade Commission (File No# 202-3138).

According to court documents between February 2018 and April 2021, Credit Karma through their website, mobile app and email mislead consumers when sending advertisements and recommendations that consumers were “pre-approved” for third party financial products. It is alleged the company was aware that not all consumers would qualify for these offers thus leading consumers to incur addition damage to their credit when a “hard pull” inquiry was made on their credit report.

As part of the consent agreement and without any admission of wrongdoing, Credit Karma will pay $3 million to consumers who applied to these offers but were then denied credit. The company is also prohibited from making deceptive claims in regard to “pre-approval.”

Consumers who were affected or have questions can go to www.ftc.gov/CreditKarma, to file a claim, or you can email [email protected] or call 866-848-0871 with questions.

At 10:44 AM Sat. March 16th I received an email from credit karma stating that my credit karma spend account had been Frozen. I contacted credit karma support via chat at 11:10 a.m. on March 16th and was told that I needed to continue to watch my email because there was a team that was working on getting my account unfrozen. I waited 2 hours and I contacted through chat support again stating I had still not received an email. They told me the same thing and told me to wait. I then called at around 3:00 p.m. on March 16th and was given the same answer over the phone that I was given in the chat. I waited until almost 5:00 p.m. March 16th and I called again when this time I was told I still had to wait but the team that is supposed to be working on it was not in the office on weekends. Then at 10:34 p.m. on March 16th I received another email stating that my savings account had also been frozen. This was 9 hours and 50 minutes later. At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Monday March 18th I called again and was given the same information. Was told I needed to continue to wait for an email and was told that there was nobody available in this "exclusive" team of people that are supposed to unfreeze accounts that would speak with me. Neither of my accounts are negative. Neither of my accounts have been negative in over a year and I verified my identity with this company less than 3 months ago. When I had to update my phone number they requested a copy of my ID and stuff for identity verification then. I have not received any emails from credit karma other than the ones telling me that my account was frozen. I have already been in contact with a lawyer on information about any arbitration agreements and what we can do moving forward. Because being given the run around is against EFTA.I was informed to try everything in order to get the Credit Karma to respond to the issue as no information is being given to me about my account. All times are EST
