DETROIT, MI - Know someone looking to start a career? A Detroit program now talking applications is paying people to move to the city for a year to work with companies and nonprofits in an effort to recruit talent to the Motor City.

Challenge Detroit is seeking its third class of fellows to "live, work and play" in Detroit. The program matches 30 fellows with host companies where they'll work four days a week, and with nonprofits where they'll work on community-service projects.

Fellows make $36,000 for the year, plus benefits, and some have landed full-time jobs with their host companies. They also get access to Detroit cultural and entertainment events and take part in a leadership training program.

Twenty-four of the 27 fellows who took part in Challenge Detroit's first class stayed in Detroit, according to Jeffrey Lamoureux, a spokesman for the program. Twelve of the fellows found work with their host companies, four found jobs through the Challenge Detroit network, five started their own companies and three pursued their own opportunities.

Among the host companies for the 2014-15 class include: General Motors, CBS Detroit Radio, the Detroit Lions, the United Way of Southeastern Michigan and Crestmark Bank.

People interested in applying need to send a Phase One application to Challenge Detroit by March 9. Year 3 fellows will start working in September.
